What do rules mean to you?

Generally, I zone out at things that begin like "3 easy ways to" or "the 8 types of" or "the 9 best examples of"- you know what I'm talking about. Those web articles which try to make complex ideas more simple and digestible by breaking them down into little pieces.

This post is going to be short, but to the point. I recently watched Gretchen Rubin (who you might know as the author of Happier at Home and The Happiness Project) give a talk entitled The 4 Ways to Successfully Adopt New Habits, and it really started my thinking about how different people cope with rules.
