Everyone agrees. Passwords are annoying.

For the past couple years, I've been working as a researcher for CMU's Human-Computer Interaction Institute, where we developed a new password creation flow for PNC bank. I focused on coming up with fast, reliable systems for determining what makes a strong password, and then prototyped and implemented a new password meter based on results from our user studies. Below are various examples of meter designs we evaluated in our studies.

We submitted a paper with our findings to CHI, the biggest HCI conference in the world. The paper was awarded a prestigious Best Paper accolade, which very few papers receive. You can read the paper here

PNC bank is currently rolling out our new system to their employees and customers nationwide.

Secure Chat

The ability to chat privately and securely is increasingly valued and publicized, with apps like Telegraph and Signal reaching mainstream audiences. However, the complicated nature of encryption can make these apps difficult to understand and use. I'm currently helping to develop a study to evaluate how usable these apps actually are to the average person.
